Welcome to Bodø!
At a latitude of 67 degrees North - in the middle of the magical North – lies Nordland County’s capital Bodø. With its 46.000 inhabitants, Bodø is Northern Norway’s second largest city and one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
Fresh and open
Situated on the tip of the Bodø peninsular, the city lies there – friendly and open towards the sea. The city is well-known for receiving people well. Here you can find one of the country’s best student environments and it is easy to enthuse about Bodø dwellers’ hospitality and friendly nature.
Bodø is famous for its spectacular nature and strong contrasts. From the scintillating midnight sun to the magic Northern Lights in the dark. From sea safari along the most beautiful coast in the world to ski Eldorado on the Swedish border. From an urban, pulsating centre to quiet rural areas. You always live well in Bodø!
Time to live
Very good communications make the travel to Bodø go at record-breaking speed. The airport is located near the city centre and in the centre you find the railway, express boat services, ferries, buses and the world famous Coastal Express. The city is a national hub for transport, tourism, business, education, culture and spectacular natural experience. Here you also find international attractions such as Kjerringøy old trading station, the world’s strongest maelstrom – Saltstraumen and The Norwegian Aviation Museum.
One of the unique things about Bodø is the closeness to the countryside and the sea. Here you can combine urban espresso pleasure with salty sea rafting and mountain walking. You can also choose between concerts and exhibitions – and you can jump right into your kajakk or onto your off-road bike. With everything nearby you get more time – more time to live!
During the last 5-6 years the city has grown, thanks to offensive planning and development. The city stands on the brink of enormous investments! We are working for the new university, the football club Bodø Glimt which is in Norway’s premier league and the new cultural centre in the city centre. The national harbour and the Nordland Hospital will also be developed and new international air routes are planned. Cultural life flourishes. The Nordland Music Festival Week, The Park Festival, Bodø Air and Space Festival, Aspmyra Live Rock Festival, Bodø Hardcore Festival as well as many other cultural events – all this shows the diversity and dynamism of Bodø’s culture.
Combining varied trades, services and businesses and major educational institutions, Bodø is an area where you can study and make your own career – without moving. In addition the municipality provides full nursery school coverage and also well-developed after-school services for children.
Welcome to our city Bodø – in the middle of Norway – in the middle of our hearts!
